I'm familiar with the Alesis QS 7.1 but only know the Yamaha NP-V80 from youtube clips. For home I've got a Yamaha P-200 but also want something lighter and smaller for portability. Not expecting as good of a piano sound as the P-200 from either of these models, but from listening to the clips the NP-V80 sounds closer than the QS 7.1. Other 76 key suggestions under $1000 welcome. Quality piano sound is my main concern.

Thanks.

Not 76 key but the Casio PX-5S is under 25 lbs and amazingly good value for just under $1000 new.

Well there's always the Kurzweil SP4-7 weighing in at 24 lbs and 76 keys.

Killer piano sounds. Also selling around the $1K sweet spot.

It's an older generation Kurzweil but still has an amazing reputation.

I recently bought Kurzweil's flagship PC3K8 and it's an amazing beast ;)

Looks and sounds good (as best as I can tell from videos). It's $600 more than the NP-V80 so there's that, but if I decide it's worth the price difference I'll probably go for it. I'll give myself till late October to do more DD and decide. Thanks a lot!

Well from what I gather I'll probably go for the SP4-7 (64 note polyphony vs. 32 for the Yamaha NP-V models). Been reading good things about it, though there seems to be little agreement about the piano sounds. Doesn't look like there's much else for a grand for 76 keys. Yamaha for instance jumps from ~ $400 to ~ $2300. Pretty big gap! Looks like it's going to be mid to late November before I have $1000 I need to get rid of. Wish I could find a store to check one out before I buy, but Guitar Center said I'd have 30 days to return it if I order from them.

I'm glad I could be of help. I'm still in the young love phase with my PC3K8 but every day I'm more impressed with the sounds and flexibility of configuration that the Kurzweils offer.

Seriously you can lose yourself for years in the depths to which these beasts can be programmed. :)

Anyway, 30 day satisfaction guarantee means you take no risks.

As for unloading old gear to make room for new? Been there, done that. Here's hoping that you get close to your asking price ;)

Well, got the Kurzweil SP4-7 a few days ago and the bottom line is it's a keeper. Better piano sounds than the Alesis QS 7.1 and it's easier for me to find and go to different sounds and also easier to fine tune to somebody's guitar or whatever instrument that's not exactly in tune to the keyboard.

Thanks a lot for the tip!
