Alexis vortex into GarageBand with plugins

I just got the Alesis vortex wireless for my son. Trying to figure all of this stuff out. Newbie. Plugged it into macbook usb using garage band and it works using the garage band tones. I bought orange tree plug ins to get some cool guitar tones. Downloaded the Kontakt player for them. The plug ins come up in garage band but I lose sound for the vortex when I select them. I have superior drummer plug ins and when I select that one vortex plays drum tones but nothing from orange tree/kontakt plug in. Any help to get me going in right direction appreciated! Ty
