hoping someone can make a suggestion on an appropriate keyboard to use in this project. I have a 1924 upright piano that is not economically feasible to bring to life. I would like to remove the existing keys and keyed and install a Casio keyboard in their place. I would like to be able to listen to ragtime music for AMICA's library. I would like to use an iPad with piano tech 8 connected to the keyboard. Could someone recommend a keyboard that would allow me to do this?

If you are using an iPad as your sound source, perhaps an 88-key midi controller such as the $500 Studiologic SL88 Studio would fit the bill, as it has fully- weighted keys. Obviously, you would also need to ensure it would fit physically into your piano.

The only drawback of using this is that you would need some means of amplifying the sound, which is probably why you suggested using a Casio. However, you might find that enclosing a keyboard with speakers into the keybed area could possible alter the sound characteristics, in which case external speakers perhaps powered by a stereo hi-fi would work better.
