Hi!

I have a keyboard with MIDI in/out function. I'm trying to understand, can my keyboard act as an audio interface for recording music? Can I, for example, plug in my bass guitar into the keyboard to record it on my computer, or is it a must have to have an actual audio interface?

Thanks for the help!

It totally depends on what brand/model of keyboard you're talking about and what I/O ports it has.

Here are some URLs that will teach you the basics of home recording and how to hook up a home studio.

And here's a generic diagram of how to hook up a keyboard to a computer for recording purposes.

So I CANNOT connect my keyboard with midi IN/OUT ports directly to my computer with some kind of cable? i need to connect the keyboard to an audio interface (looking at a presonus audiobox 22VSL which has midi) and then that interface to the computer.
Is that correct?
