I think MZ-X500 is a great board. Most of the Yamaha sounds are probably better, but the Casio sounds are not bad, and it has some advantages of its own (besides lower price), including drawbar organ with 9 physical sliders, more extensive sound editing capabilities, and much lighter travel weight.

In another post the OP stated she wants to take a graded piano course.

61 keys won’t cut it and the arranger features will be useless.

Is the Op a kid saving up their pocket money.

It is another chalk and cheese post by them.

This time a £700 and a £1700 keyboard vastly different and not a piano action in sight.

Get the MZX500. I have two of them because it is destined to be a classic. The key to making it sound great is loading samples. I got free samples from the Casio site along with others from YouTube. If you take the time to tweak the sounds and samples the results are spectacular because of the synth capacities that are superb. You can also download excellent free styles from Casio World. I never regretted buying 2 of these puppies. Another plus is the excellent sound system it has got. Huge sound comes from the speakers.

This thread is over 2 years old and Biggles summed it up pretty well. The MZ-X500 had the POTENTIAL to be a great board (and easily Casio's best effort since the MZ-2000. But... the keybed is awful, probably the same one they used on the CT-X3000. And the MIDI implementation is half-baked, so you can't even use it as an arranger MODULE! What a shame.

Still holding out for the CT-S900 (think about a CT-S500 with a larger screen, style editing, full 5-pin MIDI implementation with "chord judge," etc.,. and you get the idea!)
