Getting MIDI audio to amplifier and looper

First post here with complete newbie question. I'm using an M-Audio CODE49 through a MacBook Pro using Logic Pro X software. What I'm currently doing to run through an amplifier is to take the headphone out of the laptop, running 1/8" stereo jack to L+R RCA jacks to line in on a Behringer Xenyx QX1202USB mixer, and using 1/4" mono phone jack from control room out of the mixer to an amplifier. Is there a simpler way of doing this? I'm also interested in using a Boss RC-3 looper so I could just put it in line between the mixer and the amp. Just seems to me like there should be an easier way.

What function does the mixer serve? Why not out of the RCA plugs directly into the amp using this:
