Hey everyone! Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself.

Now that I’m an empty nester, I’m getting back into rebuilding my home recording setup. I've got a Yamaha Arius and an old Metropolitan upright acoustic piano I use for playing but I wanted to get the recording setup back up and runnin.

I was eyeing the new Korg Kronos 3 that's supposed to drop later this year, but the budget gave me a hard "not yet"—maybe next year!

In the meantime, I went back to my old favorite, Reaper, which I used to use back in the late 2000s. This time around I added PianoTeq with the Harpsichord and Steinway B packs, and I’m loving it. PianoTeq runs on its own too, so I only open Reaper when I’m doing actual recording. I couldn't help myself and picked up the OP-X PRO-3 VSTI as well. It's super fun and has old school Rush and Van Halen presets right out of the box.

I dug out my old Roland Juno G from storage to run the VSTI's, but man... I just can’t stand the feel of those keys, and the Roland piano sounds it has aren't that great either. Ended up scoring a used M-Audio Hammer 88 for $300 at a local Music-Go-Round, and the key action feels fantastic. It runs the VSTIs very well.

Not gigging or anything—just playing at home. A mix of baroque, classical, and old church hymns. Trying to relearn pieces I used to know. Funny how your hands remember those big Chopin chords even after a decade or more!

Looking forward to hanging out here, hearing what everyone’s up to, and learning a few new tricks along the way. Wishing you all good music, good gear, and lots of inspiration! Any lessons learned from PianoTeq users worth sharing? I'd like to hear about them.
