I’m planning to upgrade from my Pa4x, but I’m specifically looking for feedback on the keys, as I’m already familiar with the other features. I currently arrange a lot on the Pa4x 76. I’m wondering if the weighted keys on the 88-key version perform as well (or even better) than the semi-weighted keys when it comes to recording fast drum rolls or other instruments. In other words, is it easier or better to record with the 76-key or 88-key model? I ask because while I know the 88 keys offer a better playing experience, I’m not sure if the recording process would be more difficult, which would affect my decision.

You should *really* try fatar weighted keys and see if they're for you, first. Myself (and a lot of people used to playing real pianos) find them too 'thunky' and slow compared to real piano keys. And don't say all keyboard keys are like that; the solid wood keys of the Yamaha P515/525 & Roland FP90x, or even the wood/resin keys in the Casio PXS5000/6000/7000 all play better *to me*, but YMMV.

Personally, I prefer the semi-weighted fatar keys on the 76/61 key versions; no the 88 weighted key version most definitely won't let you play drums faster. Definitely slower (and considerably louder... you'd be going from around 10-15 db key presses to intially around 30-35db, but once the felt fails... I've had the fatar weighted keys on Nords and Studio logic boards approach 100db per key press once the felt has disintegrated. Fortunately, Korg doesn't design it so that their keys end up hitting metal on metal even with the felt gone; it's closer to 60db. But that's still a *lot* louder.

I have a Pa5X 76 and love the semi weighted keybed.

Previous was a Numa Compact 2X which had 88 semi weighted keys, but these were lighter in feel to those on my Korg.

I am not a fan of Korg weighted keys, all those that I have tried have had a slow return.

Best, if you can would be to check out each in person in a music store, even if it involves a long road trip.

A Korg 5X is to large a cash outlay to rely solely on the opinions of others.
