Hello to all I am learning the tricks of the trade about keyboard playing as I have 2 stacked I can play and read music but when I recreate a song I have just heard I can do that in no time but I feel I am using the same instrument is there a way of determining through an app or website which instrument is used to play the particular song I can guess but it don't seem quite right if anyone knows of a program website or app to help me with this I will appreciate it

Thanks in advance

I agree that many of Rick's "What makes this song great" videos would be helpful.

And I think the very best software to use is your own EARS.

You can train them to be better by watching youtube videos that show various the keyboardists playing. Train your ears (and memory of what they're hearing) based on what your eyes are seeing. Sure, a Rhodes piano looks different than a Hammond Organ or Moog Synth -- those are the easy ones to see & hear. But with time -- and some effort -- you'll get better at hearing and then replicating the sounds you want -- whether that be a Rhodes vs Wurly piano, a Hammond with drawbars out vs just 8888.... Etc.

Of course the thousands of synth pads and mono/poly synth patches are much more challenging, but with time -- and more effort -- you'll get better at hearing a square vs sine wave tone, types of modulation and effects, etc.

Use your eyes to train your ears -- and have some fun while doing it. Good luck!

Another way of learning to play a song, especially on guitar, is using an app called The Amazing Slowdowner. It's been around for decades and is truly amazing.

Narfsounds has some incredible patches for different keyboards to emulate certain songs ... worth a look, they are very good and reasonably priced.

+1 for the quality & variety of Narf Sounds.

You can also slow down YouTube videos -- without the pitch changing (just click on the 'Settings' option -- which looks like a "gear").

I have found the ultimate guitar app perfect for this - when you bring up a chord chart you can go to the bottom and play the song - if you tap on the instrument icon it brings up a pop up where you can see all the stems in the song and you can isolate the various keyboard and piano tracks as well
