Hey, I just bought the PSR-EW400 while Guitar Center had it on sale-- it should be delivered Friday (today; but I'm still thinking of this as Thursday night, so "tomorrow" if you will). The PSR-EW410 doesn't appear to have any new voices or DSP effects, which are my biggest interests, anyway (I don't play with the styles and DJ patterns), and I don't need the new onboard USB audio recording feature. So I'm not disappointed at buying the PSR-EW400 the day before the PSR-EW410 was announced-- I pretty much expected it was coming! :)

Michael,
Congrats on your purchase! Glad you got it on a discount. I am very happy with mine and mostly use it to play along with You Tube videos and songs on my Ipad Spotify playlist which I run through the onboard speakers the 1/8" jack. (Too much latency if I run it through the USB connection). Another thing I like is the Yamaha Notestar app which lets you play along as well as lets you modify the vocal/band/piano tracks.

I'll be watching this forum to see how you like your EW400. Enjoy! Any tips are welcome!

I'm going to buy the Yamaha PSR-EW400. Any disadvantage you encountered to this keyboard?

I love mine, and have no regrets based on my current needs. Keep in mind it is not as advanced as the S model arrangers so it depends on what you want to do with it.

I agree on both counts-- it definitely isn't as advanced as any of the PSR-S models (which I've never owned), but I have no regrets about buying mine. It's a great bargain at the current discounted price, and I like finally having a wider 76-key model. Plus, it's nice that I can now record MIDI and/or audio in my DAWs without having to use an audio cable or audio interface-- and I can play the computer's audio through the PSR-EW400's speakers if I want.

I'm replacing my psr 292 with the EW 400 but other than making DJ tracks, what's the difference between the 400 and the 410?

I don't do a lot of creative things with it, I just played piano gigs and use the built-in rhythms

As far as I know, the PSR-EW410's "Groove Creator" is simply the PSR-EW400's "DJ Patterns" with a new name. But there are more of them, so this seems to be a feature that Yamaha has been keen on expanding:

PSR-E433 -- 10 DJ Patterns
PSR-E443 -- 20 DJ Patterns
PSR-E453/PSR-EW400 -- 25 DJ Patterns
PSR-E463/PSR-EW410 -- 35 Grooves

Here's a pattern-by-pattern comparison I put together for another forum:

Code:

| PSR-E433 | PSR-E443 | PSR-E453/PSR-EW400 | PSR-E463/PSR-EW410 |

|----------------------|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------|------------------------|

You can see that they've added a new category-- "World"-- and have otherwise added another pattern or two to a couple of the other categories.

Anyway, in my opinion the biggest addition to the PSR-E463/PSR-EW410 is the ability to record directly to an audio file. We won't know the details until the manuals are posted, but it may be that the audio files must be recorded to a USB flash drive, similar to the process of saving a User Song to SMF (standard MIDI file). There will still be people (such as myself) who will prefer to record on a computer using a DAW, but for the average user the ability to record to an audio file is going to be a huge deal-- a real blessing.

As for the PSR-E453/PSR-EW400, I love the addition of USB audio, because it's so much more convenient to connect a USB cable for audio and MIDI, rather than having to connect a USB cable for MIDI and an audio cable for audio. And it's pretty cool to be able to select my PSR-EW400 as the audio output device on my computer so I can use the PSR-EW400's speakers instead of my computer's speakers. :)

I'm probably going to save a hundred bucks and stick with the 400. In a serious music editing I would do on the computer anyway. Thanks for your comments.

Yep, that's exactly why I went with it as well. In fact, I managed to snag one during the days leading up to Winter NAMM, when Guitar Center had it on sale for an extra 10% off-- that is, $299.99 minus $30, or $269.99-- so it was actually $10 cheaper than the PSR-E453! I couldn't resist that. :)

That's a steal. I'll keep checking my mail for another coupon. Have they set a release date for the 410?

I just searched for the PSR-EW400 at Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, Sweetwater, Kraft Music, and B&H Photo, but none of them have it listed anymore! I don't know if that means they've all sold out of their stock, or what. Do manufacturers sometimes take back all remaining stock from dealers?

Sweetwater, Kraft, and B&H have the PSR-EW410 available for preorder, but don't show an expected ship date.

Amazon still has the PSR-EW400, but now it's $399.99 again-- unless you get it "used" from Amazon Warehouse, or "new" from a dealer who charges $90 for shipping, plus additional tax, so it ends up being $400 anyway.

You might be able to buy it from someone on Craigslist.

I think I read, back when Winter NAMM was in swing, that it's expected out in May, but that could mean as early as May 1 or as late as May 31.

I've been reading the manual for the new ew410. I can't find the database anywhere. Way back in the olden day, when I got my PSR 292, the database songs for the best thing about it for need. I know the 400 has the database with all the songs listed. It would be a shame if they were moved it for the 410. Can anyone else figure out if the 410 has the database with all the songs or not?
