Hello all! So, I had a KORG Triton Extreme. I never used it for anything other than to play shows. (Guitar center guy definitely suckered me into buying something that was was too complicated for me) ..It was too much keyboard and much to heavy to lug around on tour. I sold it recently and am now looking for a replacement keyboard that is more simple and lighter, but still has a lot of the synth/organ sounds that the Triton had. Any recommendations?

Thanks a lot!!

Any preferences for weighted/unweighted keys? 5? 6? 7 Octaves?

Korg X50 is basically a Triton AI soundset in a small 5 octave package.

Here's what I summed up from reading your post: synth, organ, light, simple .....

Sounds like a Nord Electro 3. A straight forward interface (i.e. simple), 19 pounds for a 73 key (light), very good organ (Nord C1 equivalent organ), synth sounds can be easily downloaded and quickly stored into the E3 from the Nord Library.

As a comparison, the user manual of my Kurzweil PC3 is over 400 pages, i.e. complex and complicated. The user manual of the Nord Electro 3 is 27 pages, i.e. non-complex and straightforward.

How do you feel about the Korg Krome?

I own a Korg TR76.

I've read a bit about the Krome. It's supposed to have 4 Gigs of Sample ROM and unlooped piano samples. The 88 is supposedly hammer action and I think the 73 is semi weighted.

On the plus side, it will have a similar patch set and control layout to your triton so you will have a lesser learning curve there.

On the other hand, if I were shopping to replace my Korg TR these days, I'd be seriously looking at the Kurzweil PC3LE8. Both are in the same price category and I'd suggest auditioning both side by side in a local music store before you make your choice.

Then again you specified you wanted lightweight and simple. Neither is simple and the kurz weighs in around 40 lbs. Then again it's built like a sherman tank for roadie abuse :)

If you want to keep things simple I'd suggest perhaps the Kurzweil SP5-8.

http://kurzweil.com/product/sp5-8/

It has the gazillion Kurzweil sounds of the PC3 line but no sequencer or arpeggiators on board.

Then again it sells for almost the same price as the PC3LE8 which makes the PC3LE line a better value for the money. PC3LE8 is full hammer action while PC3LE6 and PC3LE7 are weighted action and all three offer fully editable sounds, on board sequencer and arpeggiators. And kurzweil products have a world class reputation used by thousands of major artists in stage venues.
