I have have tried resetting to the factory settings but that doesn't work. The round dial and the program and combination buttons don't do what their supposed to. I move the round dial and the sounds are not the ones i am trying to call up. The big round dial jumps all over the place. It's very frustrating trying to get a sound pulled up when trying to record a song.

Many thanks,
Tom

It sounds like the rotary encoder is dodgy and probably needs to be replaced. There are a few videos on YT showing them being opened up but to be honest, they are not all that expensive. You might be able to find a replacement part and solder it onto the circuit board, or have someone do it for you.

Just spray it with some electronic fluid.
Unlike potentiometers which often have some form of access, rotary encoders usually are sealed units. It would need to be unsoldered in order to release the tabs which would then allow it to be opened and sprayed. Even then, there's no guarantee that it would work as a common failure in cheap units is mechanical breakdown. Might as well just replace it if going to the trouble of removing it.
