Hi. I am a new member. I have just obtained this keyboard second hand. The previous owner has loaded loads of styles in the favourites and user parts
these styles are extra styles supplied by Korg on the internet as free. I would like to factory reset the keyboard back to as it was when new but l am not sure
if that will delete the current version which is 3.10 back to original. I am not too bothered about saving the present set up by the previous owner as l want to start from scratch
with my own selection of styles and original songbook for now. All help will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

This may seem odd but first you should create a Backup of the settings that you have.

This video shows how, BTW the guy in the video was the head of Korg UK so does know what he is doing.

Should anything go wrong with the reset you then have something to reload.

The additional Styles are most likely from Korg’s own Bonusware website where there are 40+ collection of Styles, and Sounds etc available for free.

Resetting will retain the 3.1 version of the OS which if memory serves me correct is that latest and last version which is also called OS Next.

Hi Biggles. Thanks for your reply to my question. I followed the video and your instructions and all
worked out perfect. i did a backup of the settings which l am glad l did as the keyboard did not sound as good when l factory reset it so l put it back as it was. I think the previous owner must have done other
settings to enhance the keyboard. My next problem is the volume sliders.

The Pa range do not sound at their best out of the box or when reset, this is because they default to having the Eq off.

Go into the menu and see what it is set to, there are a few presets to choose from and each is fully customisable.

I never had a 4X but the OS is similar to the 1000 and 700 models but the 4X does have additional options for tweaking the sound but you will have to look that up as I do not specifically know how to, my 5X has a different system.

Again not sure on the 4x but the sliders on mine are variable in their function, depending upon the setting of the adjacent buttons. To get them to function I then have to move them full range, then that resets them to the onscreen sliders.

Carnt understand why Korg make their keyboard operations so complicated yamaha up to tyros 5 was comparativley
very simple but they changed it on the genos why?. for the untecky home keyboard player is a nightmare.

It is what it is and it is a steep learning curve.

Once mastered everything can be undertaken very quickly, call ups are fast and as well as the 4 keyboard sets available with each Style there are all the Favourites that are readily available.

Its recording features are vastly superior to Yamaha’s, the quality of the Sounds IMO are much clearer and pure than those in a Genos

But it does take effort to get there, worth it.

I sold my Pa in 2019 and then bought the 5X in February this year and picking up the new OS was an easy task, so yeah once learned it is transferrable.

Well the long winter nights are on the way so l will have time to try and unravell the
Korg operation system. If l dont have any luck l may have to pass it on for a more user friendly
keyboard.

I have already advised on the Korg Bonusware website.

If you search “Korg Pa Manager” it gives you a third party app that many give good reports about.

There is Korg’s own Songbook Editor which is free and it does what its name suggests.

The Songbook feature is the heart of effectively using any Pa arranger, save your chosen Style for a specific song into Songbook via a long press of the Songbook button, name it as you want and then modify the Keyboard Sets and Pad sounds to suit saving after each change.

Once you get enough Songs saved you can then create a Setlist, and you can create as many Setlists as you want.

Steve McNally is the guy who creates all Korg’s Video tutorials, there are a few for your 4X.

Qui Robinez is a very knowledgable user who has also created a lot of Video Tutorials.

TIP
If you have the Style To Keyboard Set button flashing when you change from Var 1 it changes the Keyboard set to 2 automatically, change to Var 3 and kbdset changes to 3 etc. So no having to press two buttons.

Yes.

Osimo is a set of custom Styles and Setlists made by Korg UK staff and distributed free.

You need the Osimo zip file.

Your luck is in as I have that file, pm me with your eMail address and I will send it to you.

Also read these threads:-

As always before loading anything onto any Korg Pa create a SaveAll file.

The Osimo styles and setlists remain on the USB memory stick so initially do not try to load it into your 4X try selecting the Style or Setlist that you know were missing the resource and it should find them as long as Osimo goes into the same location as the Original version.

Hi Royston

I too come from a Yamaha background. I now have a Pa5X.
Don't let the 'new to you' Korg operating system put you off. It IS a bit daunting at first.
It's well worth learning, and Biggles has helped me a great deal to get there. It does take a bit of time though.
Join the Korg forum too, as there's a lot of very useful advice there.

Once you understand it, you'll see that it's well worth the effort, and you'll be more than happy with your new instrument.
They are superb, well made stage quality keyboards.

Might be a silly suggestion, but try something simple first (we’ve all gone too deep too soon sometimes). Have a play around in the Maxx Audio. A few simple tweaks there can do a lot. Good luck.

The Osimo system for the Pa models except the 5X relied upon a feature called Direct which once turned on the applicable files would then be automatically read and incorporated into the Pa.

Rather than faff around with the old Osimo there is a new Pa5x specific Osimo which can ge loaded, but must be loaded via a specific routine and not File > Select > Load which will over write all the existing Songbook and setlists.
