I got a used Kurzweil PC88mx with multiple broken keys. I was able to fix them, and now it works fine except for one issue. It is freezing up from time to time sporadically - no sound and does not respond to any controls. The power off/on returns it to normal. I would appreciate any relevant advice.

Thank you,

Thanks! I will research how to do that. I am not a profi :) Can you point me in the right direction?

I first thought about a bad cap considering they are 25+ years old. I opened the instrument hoping to see bulging, etc. but I did not find anything obvious and decided to ask in the forum hoping someone had this exact issue. Desoldering all caps might do more harm. If I decide to keep the keyboard for myself, it is not a big issue as the lock-ups happen not even every day. I will try the firmware if I find it.

A little late to the game, but I have a PC88mx that was severely acting up. I finally figured out that by removing the MX daughter card, the keyboard went back to working exactly as it should (though without the extra sounds). Turned out the daughter card or associated electronics went bad. This card is roughly under the zone sliders if I remember correctly. Here's the service manual: https://yamahamusicians.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17403
