Hey everyone im a beginner and ive had a casio wk 110 for about 2 years now and was looking to sell it. Now Ive been looking to get something new for quite sometime but im not really sure what to look for. I was looking for something with a 16 track recorder, pitch wheel, good selection of tones, with a realistic sound engine for decent price. What brands should I stay away from? Can anyone help me out??

What brands to stay away from? Well... Casio comes to mind :D

What kind of music are you interested in? Are you playing home or in a band.. on a stage? Do you play the piano often... maybe you need weighted keys... And the most
important part - Define "decent price" :)

Im into metal and hard rock more so into melodic death metal and like atmospheric ambient stuff. But im really open to any kind of music.. Honestly I just play for fun at home and I try to play as often as I can.
Btw whats difference does weighted keys make?

Like i was looking for something light like easy to move around with along with nice quality and variety of tones and something with atleast an 8 track recorder..

haha and yes ive heard from alot of people casio was horrible but it was given to me for christmas and it was cheap so yeah lol

Weighted keys make a world of difference if you're trying to play piano. They take a lot more pressure to push down, like a real piano, so you'll get a more realistic feel which, if you're a good pianist, will affect your sound.

You still haven't said anything about price, but since you don't really have pro-level skills, you're probably looking at one of the lower-end workstations. Each of the big three manufacturers (Roland, Korg, and Yamaha) have their big flagship workstations (read: expensive) and their scaled-down models that are much more suited towards people who don't have pro budgets to spend.

In that range, you're looking at the Korg M50, Roland Juno series, and Yamaha MO series. My personal preference is either for the M50 or MO; I can't really recommend the Juno series. In my opinion, the M50 is the better choice if you favour synthesized sounds, and the MO is the better choice for acoustic sounds.

If these are still out of your price range, one of the low-end Junos, the Yamaha MM series, or looking for something used (the Korg TR and Triton LE are both good and discontinued, recently in the case of the TR so Korg could introduce the M50).

kanthos said it all... Since you don't know anything about weighted keys you don't need them :)

Especially for the kind of music you're into. My recommendation goes to Korg M50.
It doesn't have a sampler but you'll be amazed by the sounds it already has.
It's cheaper than the Yamaha's MO, and Korgs have better synth/pad/lead/atmospheric sounds than yamaha.

If you were more into the acoustic sounds, then yamaha would be the right choice

yeah i looked into the Korg M50 its really nice looking but its alittle too expensive =\. I was looking to spend around $500-$600 tops.

I also took a look at the Roland E09 for $549. The sounds it produces are amazing and its got everything im looking for, even the 16 track recorder which I thought was awesome, however theres no USB port and I wanted to transfer my recordings to my computer. Is there another way u can do this without the use of a USB?

that's an arranger keyboard... i think you'll want a full workstation. You can't modify sounds on arrangers the way you can on workstations... you can't mix them, layer them, split them etc... like you can on a full workstation.

Oh and arrangers have styles - worstations don't

You haven't said where you're from, so I'm assuming US dollars. The only workstations in that price range are the Yamaha MM6 for $600 and the Roland Juno D for $595 (prices from sweetwater.com). Out of the two, I'd pick the Yamaha hands down.

However, I'd suggest looking at craigslist to see what's out there. Chances are you can get a better keyboard that's used within your price range. Perhaps the Korg TR which was discontinued late last year; I bought mine new for just over $600 US (at least in today's dollars) on a good sale; I'd imagine used prices for a unit in good condition would be about the same or slightly less.
