Hello Forum friends. I have a hammond xk-3c and lower manual xkl-3. I recently moved the double manual to a different location. For some reason the lower manual does not make any sound. The lower manual power light is comes on as it should. I've reset factory default on xk-3c. I've looked into menu and found lower keyboard and it said lower manual mute. I changed it to normal. But it just blinks. Is there something I can do through menu to get lower manual functioning again?

I do stupid shxt when i'm setting up for shows all the time. I pretty much gig every week and there is always something that is not working. Did you by chance connect the lower manual midi connector to the pedal input jack on the xk3c rather than the lower input midi-in jack? If so the lower manual will respond to the pedal drawbars rather than the lower drawbars since the xk3c thinks you have pedals connected to it rather than the lower manual. Is there anything that you need to do on the xk3c to "activate" the lower manual or is just plug in and play and is it supposed to work immediately without any further settings to turn on or adjust? Do you have the split button turned on? Is the lower keyboard somehow set to function as controlling a midi module rather than the lower manual? This would mean the lower manual is not sending ch 2 midi data that the xk3c is expecting to see.

Also, try another keyboard, i.e. plug in a midi keyboard into the lower manual midi in, set that keyboard to send on midi channel 2, it should work as the lower manual if you pull the lower drawbars on the xk3c.

One other thought, the lower drawbars on the xk3c can be programmed to be a 2nd set of upper drawbars rather than lower drawbars. Be sure this hasnt somehow happened. My guess is the first item i mentioned is the likely cause i.e. the lower manual is incorrectly plugged into the wrong midi jack on the xk3c.

Thanks Delaware Dave for responding to my problem. After reading what you suggested, I looked at the midi section, page 96, in the manual showing CH upper Lower/Pedal OF. So I fooled with it and bingo. Thanks again.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm having exactly the same issue. It was working briefly this morning then there was suddenly one held constant note, I've had this before on other MIDI soundbanks and had to perform a MIDI reset. I've taken all the advice here, including changing MIDI settings over and back, the panic button (REC?JUMP + BANK buttons pressed together), replacing the CR2032 backup battery in the XK3, and nothing is working. It's not transmitting MIDI, I think a small star is supposed to appear to the bottom right of the display when the XK3 is receiving MIDI from the XLK3 and this is not happening. Does anyone have any other ideas?
I'd be really grateful as I have to gig with this in just over a week.
Thanks for any help anyone can give

1) could very well be the midi cable. Purchase a new midi cable and see if that fixes your issue. This happened to me just two weeks ago, started getting stuck notes and no notes. I started flexing the cable at various points and suddenly it started working so i purchased a new cable and no issues since.

2) if #1 doesnt solve your issue then start from scratch, i.e. do a complete factory reset of the XK3. There should be instructions in the manual that explains how to do a factory reset. Then follow the configuration in the manual to setup the lower keyboard.

Report back your findings.

HI Dave
thanks for this. I've tried two separate cables and used them to hook up another MIDI keyboard, they both work with that keyboard. It's a Behringer U-Control. The cables also work when I use them to hook up my Roland PK-5A foot pedals with the XK-3 so I think I've ruled out cables for now...

I have done a factory reset as per the manual, or rather I think it is called Loading Defaults - which you can do by powering off then on whilst holding the REC/JUMP button - the only red button on the panel. I've also done it using the method outlined in the manual through the menu, then I've followed the instructions in the XLK-3 manual to reset the XK-3 so it sees the XLK-3 again.

I am now trying to find a local electronic keyboard engineer to come and take a look at it.
Thanks for all your help

Hi all, an update. Switched on this morning and everything was AOK, lower manual working. Had a play.
After about 15 minutes the same held notes, then power off and on, back to normal. Repeated this process.
Now we are back to it not working. Could it be something to do with the warming up of the unit?

Sounds like you need tech service, the good news is that it sounds reproducable so a good tech will figure it out pretty quickly.
