New to MIDI really could use some help please!

So here is my hardware:

AKAI MPK249 - has midi in and midi out ports
Roland JV-880 Rack Mounted - has midi in, out, and passthru
I have a scarlett solo by focusrite which has a 1/4" input and mic input - I'm assuming I have to upgrade to one with midi?
I'm using ableton live 12

I've been just using digital sound with my akai midi controller in ableton, but I can't figure out how to control the Roland JV-880 with my keyboard and hear it in ableton.
Can someone please tell me how to set it up like as if you were talking to a caveman? Which way cables go and possible if you have experience with akai mpk is there a preset or setting I need to change?
