Hi,
Our band just acquired a Nord Stage 3 Compact. Can someone suggest as to how we might create the keyboard part for the song Legs by the band ZZ Top? Thank you in advance.
here is what they did:
" .. Created an unusual
synthesizer sound by routing the synth's audio signal through a
noise gate that was triggered externally by continual
sixteenth-note hi-hat samples from a
drum machine. As a result, the synthesizer
chords pulsed to a sixteenth-note beat at a
tempo of 125 beats per minute .."
If you listen to the song you could kind of recreate the sound by using a clavinet using a brilliant, treble and possibly the medium filters all 'on' with the soft filter 'off'. For pick ups, you want a thin sound so you want the pickup settings on D for dual and out of phase "B" so that it will be thinner. So if you were playing a real clav the six switches would be (left to right): down, down, down, up, up, up with possibly the 3rd switch up as well (experiment). So now you just have to figure out, on the Stage 3, how to set the Clav filters and pickups to mimic the above. The Stage 3 doesn't have all of the Clav filters, only the soft mid and bright, but not the treble. Not sure how the pickups work on the Stage 3. the original electro had all of the filter settings and pickups, looks like the Stage 3 compromised that a little. Play like the song with quick pulsations of the keys. should get close.
