PA5x Update v1.3.1 problems.

I recently updated to v1.3.1 after doing a Save All to a thumb drive and then downloading everything after the update. The Matrix is no longer functioning; no lights on the buttons, no effects are triggered by the buttons, and the Matrix page on the screen shows all buttons as blank with no way to re-program them. Also, all songs shown after pressing the Set List button now show "Resource Style Not Found" so they will no longer play. The Set List folder in the internal memory is now empty. All songs were missing from Jukebox but I was able to repopulate those.
Possibly unrelated. I have a number of MP3 songs that I previously recorded on the PA5x and then saved on an SD card inserted in the rear slot, but I cannot get them to play from that source. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks for any help with all this.

I recall that just before it went down, somebody on the Korg forums mentioned that V1.3.1 had some issues and had been pulled.

As a temporary solution.... Do you have a recent Back up from when you were using Version 1.3.0.

If so...... Or even if not.

Find the Version 1.3.0 on the Korg website, and download it into your Pa5x. This will delete V1. 3.1.

In other words... Return to the previous operating system.

THEN Load your own backup file.
and it should revert to where you were prior to using the V1.3.1

I'd Not use V1.3.1 at present. Get in touch with Korg USA Support and report what has happened.

If you haven't got a backup file then sadly you'll have probably lost your previous work, but at least your keyboard will be stable again.

Make a point of backing up at least weekly, or after saving your own stuff.

That's what I would do in your circumstances. I hope it helps.

Thanks Keith, great advice. I skipped V1.3 because I don't trust any sort of software updates until they have been corrected at least once. That is why I thought V1.3.1 would be safe. I still have my Save All from just before I loaded V1.3.1 so I could go back to V1.3 and then reload that but the Korg site only offers V1.3.1 now after checking the US site, the English site, and even the French site. Google searches for that version just kept routing me back to V1.3.1.
I guess I will wait and see if someone has found solutions for my issues, and in the meantime, decide how much I miss having the Matrix.

Hi ObiJohn

I just tried this link and ALL previous versions are available.

Ignore the first bit where it gives a link... That one doesn't work.

So carry on down the page and there is a further link that then gives downloads for All previous versions.

Go right down near the bottom of the page and there is a link to "Clickhere for previous versions"

***Suggest you keep a copy of the Zip file on your pc for future. That way you always have a get out of jail card.

Let us know how you get on.

I've been using version 1.3.1 since it was released and it works flawlessly. I suspect the update was not done correctly according to the instructions. I would try it one more time without the backup, of course. There is nothing wrong with this firmware update 1.3.1 other than remaining defects.

Hi Kbrkr

I too have had no issues with it, but the fact remains that ObiJohn has run into some problems. He may or may not try it again. Only he knows how his keyboard is set up.

My suggestion will at least return him safely to Version 1.3.0 which is definitely stable. That at least will restore him to a safe place from which to ponder his next move.

Korg did release v3.1.1 and then pulled it after a few days.

A few weeks later they released it again.

Suggest you download it again and use this version.

In the past I usually downloaded and saved Korg updates but heldnoff installing them for a few weeks to allow others to Beta test. Alas no Korg forum to check on the state of nation so to speak.

Hi,
I have loaded O/S 1.3.1 and although it runs better than 1.3.0 I still feel that all is not right. Sometimes when turning my PA5X on, the buttons might not work and I have to switch off and restart the keyboard, and other times no writing appears on the left hand side of the keyboard on the view screen.

Thanks for this Chelsea.
It's helping to build up a picture of what's happening with V1.3.1
I've not found any problems myself, but if I do, I'll post, and probably revert to V1.3.0

One thing I can't find is any instruction on how to re-order my Set Lists..... Something it claims I should be able to do?

!!! I was about to delete my v1.3.0 download because I'd installed the 1.3.1 already... thanks for the heads up, hopefully they have a 1.3.2 soon! So far, I haven't encountered any problems with 1.3.1 on our display PA5x76, but I'll keep an eye out now...

Hi Mark

No don't do that! 😜

I keep all the Original Zip files for each version on my pc hard drive. Accidents can happen! It's good to have a safety net!

Version 1.3.1 seems to be behaving OK on my own Pa5x.

From AntonySharmman at YamahaMusicians:

"PA5x Matrix Settings recovering after OS 1.3.1 Update

In every Pa5X OS update you have to save your Custom Resources.KST , update OS

and then reload your Custom Resources.KST back as installation manual says but they forgot to mention one

significant detail , Settings of newer OS v.1.3.1 are not compatible with previous OS v.1.2 and the result after

reloading your Custom Resources.KST are to lose all Matrix & KAOSS preset settings ...

Pa5X users with custom resources that you have upgraded to OS v1.3.1 and you then had loaded your previous

Custom Resources.KST do the following to restore preset settings of Matrix & KAOSS.

- Go to FILE/Menu/Factory Restore , uncheck all , click only at SETTINGS square box , restore and Done.

Your whole KST custom resources will be untouched ...

Then you can set any custom Global settings you had done in your previous setup."

He basically said *not* to roll back, but do this instead

Cheers,

Thanks for this Mark. I'll make a copy of this for my records. It would obviously be helpful if Korg had made this clear in the Installation info!!

The pdf information that comes bundled with the Installation Zip file is only for versions up to V1.3.0.

There is NO information regarding : V1. 3.1

This is the answer I got from Korg.

"The Pa5X v1.3.1 OS update only contains minor improvements and fixes over v1.3 which introduced many new functions.

The main improvements in OS 1.3.1 are:

- Refined SongBook Management
- Optimized Audio routing for insert effects
- Enhanced character compatibility
- Keyboard-Set mute improvements
- Overall enhanced System stability"

As an example... It mentions Refined Songbook Management......
I can't see any difference between V1. 3.0
and the newer version? There is nothing in the manual

Can anyone else see any difference?

Here are the changes to the songbook for 1.3.1:

1. Choosing a Keyboard Set target location when saving a SongBook Entry
2. Rearranging the Set Lists order
3. Bug Fix: SongBook and Style track parameters
Some Style track parameters, like Program Change and Expression values, were
always saved with fixed values for all the Style Elements in a SongBook Entry. Now
Sounds and Expression values can change on each Style Element.

Thanks for this kbrkr..

But there are no specific instructions on how to Do these things. That's what I want.

Regarding the 2nd.... Rearranging the Set Lists order, are there any instructions on how to do that.?
Thank you

I seem to remember the advice on the Korg Forum to reload your custom setting was to uncheck the Settings.

That way your Songbook, Setlists etc would be the ones loaded.

Does not seem right reloading your Settings from the SaveAll.kst file as this would over write the updated Settings in the OS update.
