Help please!!

I am basically new to Midi. I am trying to record two midi instruments (drums and PC3) in two scenarios, using a basic Studio One program. Drums ONLY have midi cable output, not USB. PC3 would be playing either in program mode or (if in a setup) only a typical 2-program split.

Can this be done? If so, how?

SCENARIO 1: Record both things via midi cable, using an interface w/ a single midi port. This is least ideal. So, cables would go
DRUM MIDI OUT
>midi cable>
PC3 MIDI IN (i think...? i don't know what "thru" does.)
and
PC3 MIDI OUT (i think...? i don't know what "thru" does.)
>midi cable>
INTERFACE MIDI IN

SCENARIO 2: Eliminate interface. So, cables would go
DRUM MIDI OUT
> midi cable>
PC3 MIDI IN (i think...? i don't know what "thru" does.)
and
PC3 USB OUT
>USB cable>
LAPTOP USB IN

Is this possible? If so, how do i set it up?

Basically you are on a snipe hunt.

Easiest way to do this is to connect the PC3 via USB to computer and at the same time connect the drum module to the computer using a USB to MIDI Interface.

Your DAW will recognize both instruments simultaneously and then you can assign each device to it's own channel and track in your project.

Here's an example of how my simple living room studio looks.

Thanks! It turns out that my drums also have USB midi, so that could work.

What I don't know is whether my DAW software (StudioOne Artist) will let me accept two USB MIDI inputs and also a Presonus audio interface input, all at the same time. I know it *should* but I cdon't know how

It should but I'm not an expert on Presonus.

You'll have to see what's available in the configuration Menus to set it up properly.

Personally I use Cakewalk.
