Pedal Volume Jump on program change

With my Yamaha (MOFX and MODX) when using an expression pedal, for global volume it works fine.
However with each program or patch change, the volume shoots up to maximum until you physically engage the pedal...... and then you can lower it.

It would be better for the next program to go to no or low volume. Very frustrating when playing live

What's the fix?

Thank you A.Scott, for your link which is very helpful.
I did finally figure out about the Controller Reset function (which took some digging as it is buried fairly deep, if you're not used to navigating it.....)

That did the trick!!.
I hope this post helps someone going forward that may run into the same problem.

It's a real fix!!
