Listen to the intro . . interesting I think.
Now Fast fwd to 2:12.

Cool eh?
Any comments?
What keyboard is used?
Is it a specific synth sound being played?

They don’t produce songs like that any more, sadly.

Thanks for posting it Ray.

I would hazard a guess that the synth is made by Sequencer and its the Prophet.

There again I may be totally wrong.

The original hit version of "Runnaway" was recorded in January 1961. A keyboard player named Max Crock played the solo on the hit
version using a self fashioned keyboard based on the Clavioline series keyboard. Here is info on the clavioline https://collection.maas.museum/object/346054

That was a fascinating article. Much thanks for the link Don.

It looks to me like one of those DIY Kit Synths available from PAIA back i the 80's.

But really I'm just guessing.

Looks custom though.

Holy smokes Batman... I jogged my memory today and looked up PAIA and it turns out they are still in the business. They even have a module kit that's competitively priced compared to the low end stuff from Behringer and Arturia these days.

Plenty of Eurorack stuff too.

Looks like loads of fun for the propellorheads who enjoy building their "Great Wall 'O Synths." :)

Thanks for posting this memories maker. I think Runaway was such a big hit because the solo was so different from anything else on the charts at the time. Marty Robbins had a similar experience with his hit Don't Worry About Me...although he went to the other end of the scale.
