I have a Yamaha Sonogenic 300 Keytar and a Yamaha DGX-670 keyboard. Both have USB MIDI ports, not 5-Pin MIDI ports. I bought a USB B/B cable (device plugs on both ends) from Amazon to connect the two devices. I was hoping I could access the keyboard voices from the keytar via the USB B/B cable. Nothing.
(1) Is there some trick I can do to get the cable to work?
(2) If not, what would people use a USB B/B cable for?

You probably blew out both USB ports already. :p

You need a USB MIDI Host. Google it. Amazon sells them for around $70.

You cannot simply connect a USB -B to a USB-B port.
This is roughly similar to connecting a mic to another mic - nothing will happen (you need to connect mics to amps)

So, You must connect each USB MIDI instrument to a USB host.
A computer is a USB host. You then route the MIDI out from the keytar to the DGX MIDI in.
A cheap and small computer that can do this is a Raspberry Pi.

Otherwise you can use a USB MIDI host box to convert USB to 5-Pin MIDI.

Unfortunately, you’ll need two of these to connect the USB keytar to the USB DGX-670.
The Raspberry Pi is the better solution, but requires some typing in some configuration code.
