Yamaha DGX 670 -Can't I record on track 9 if not using a style?

I'd swear I've done it. But, Today I'm recording a multi-instrument piece. No style, although one is selected in the menu...I see no way not to. But It is not started, or on synch.

So I am recording that one track only at the momen. I press REC+Trk 9, start recording and play what I want it to record. I thought maybe I needed to change the split point to far left. (I play some in octave 3 and octave 4. PIcture below of split point screen.

But, nothing records. Suggestions?

I've been perusing the manuals. It looks like, maybe, if I want to record in 9 and above I must create a style. But given what styles do, it seems wrong. I have a single instrument I'm recording, as part of the melody. But my experience with styles is that they play as accompaniment to what you are playing, and depending on what the rhythm is, the style adjusts to play with that.

I may be out of luck.

Well, working with Yamaha support, I got an answer, after putting up a video of how I was doing it.

So, if I want to record on any of tracks 9-16, when I first press REC and TRK9 (or any other track), on the keyboard display it shows Rhythm 1, which is the default use of track 9. What I didn't realize was that when that comes up, if I turn the dial selector it will offer what I want it to record. So at that point I can select Main 1, or any other option.

So the good news is, I CAN record to all tracks individually if I so desire.
