Yamaha DGX670 wiht Yamaha 3 Pedal Unit - Sustain sticking

I'm learning a song that uses the sustain pedal through the whole 268 measure song. It is of course letting off and pressing again quite often. It is sticking on. Won't release.

When it first started, I could shut down the keyboard, and it would be fine on reboot. But now that isn't even helping. It is off when I first use it after startup, but then when I do, it holds again.

I'm guessing I have a hardware problem.

I'll plan on contacting Yamaha support tomorrow, but in the mean time I thought I'd drop a query here.

with the three pedal unit does it look and feel like the pedal itself is not returning its position?

or is the pedal returning but the notes are still sounding?
