Hi all,

Any help would be appreciated.
I recently moved and when setting up my piano today i discovered that it doesnt turn on anymore.
Its a Yamaha keyboard P-155. I bought it second hand around a year ago and was really enjoying teaching myself.
Don't know if anyone has any advice on how i can try to fix it myself? Or whether i should take it to a store somewhere that knows what they are doing?
Any tips would be welcome. The instruction manual just says i should make sure its plugged in.

Kind regards,
TheChickenRice

First of all, did you plug in the correct power supply?

Secondly. Is there any response at all when you hit the power button?

Try the standard Yamaha reset first, with wall wart connect but the keyboard turned off, press and hold the furthest key as you turn on the keyboard, if it works great if not, well.

A cheap and cheerful electrical tester is a useful addition to your kit.

Batteries in, leads connected, turn on to the DC white 20 setting and insert one probe into the power plug centre and the other touching the sleeve should give you a reading, of course the wall wart does need to be plugged into the wall socket.

No reading, buy a replacement wall wart.

As the DP could be over 15 years old it is probably not worth spending a large sum on repairs.

Just to clue you guys in. If it's a Switching Power Supply you CAN NOT TEST THE VOLTAGE WITHOUT A PROPER LOAD.

Without a load attached VOM will read 0 volts regardless if it's good or not.

This only works with old fashioned regulated transformer supplies.

I looked at Dave's Link. It IS a switching supply.

The only way to test it is to connect it and test at a test point.

As for everyone's suggestions. How about we wait and see if the OP responds with whether or not he is using the correct supply to begin with,.

Yes, re-checked multiple times with different wall sockets. Also made sure the power cable was straight to the piano.
I get absolutely no reaction when i press the power button.

The unit has a 16V power supply. If you have equipment to test it you should do so. If not, try purchasing a new power supply. Here's one:

Thanks will look at purchasing a new one if i cnat find another solution.
Unfortunately i live in Europe and they arent cheap over here, around 30 euro

Power adapter i am using is a PA-301 adaptor.
I've plugged it into a wall socket in my room; assuming this provides enough power.

Try the new supply. If it still doesn't work you can always send it back anyway.

Secondly, is the keyboard still under warranty?
