STILL trying to fix my DGX-500...

Anyway, I bought a new contact board. The problem is that the boards attach to each other with these cloth bands with a bunch of tiny wires running through them.

The end of one band has a row of short, tiny wires sticking out, and the other band has a plastic thing with a row of tiny holes.

Whenever I try to connect them a couple of the wires miss the holes, and then the connected notes don't play.

Is there some kind of special tool or trick that will make this easier?

It would help if you posted a few detailed pictures of what you are working with.

Otherwise if we are talking about your typical plastic ribbon cable there is usually a connector attached to the cable and a mating connector attached to the board.

You may have to attach these yourself to make your DIY repair work.

Or it may be a flat flex cable which is surface mount soldered to the board. These kind of repairs require a video microscope and specialized tools.
