How to keep a sustain pedal in place?

I have already shown you folks the absolute best way.

No sticky tape, no glue residue, no expensive pedal board, about 20 pence worth of mat off the roll.

Grip mat simply works, it worked with my guitar pedals, with my guitar all in one board, and with a keyboard pedal all you need is a 150 x 150 square or in my case an off cut.

Tiled or wooden floor no difference, there is no movement.

And what about carpeted surfaces?

I use an 8 inch flex piece that is made to attach to a microphone stand for a performers acoustic guitar. Simply attach it to the bottom of the (X or double X) stand - bend to curve it so your pedal (Yamaha FC4A or identically made) fits in - whether on the right or left bottom side. This has worked for me for years on carpets.

There must be a proven way to keep these things in place, right? I have two pedals, one that looks like a normal piano pedal and the other is one of those squarish looking Yamaha momentary switch type pedals. The obvious problem is no matter how I depress the pedals they walk all over the place and it drives me crazy. My first thought was to mount the pedal to a piece of plywood but there must be a better solution.
Are you standing or sitting while playing?

First thing - chuck the squarish pedal. You will be in the middle of a gig and the thing will break. For the piano-pedal type - research the web for a mic stand flex connection - the kind that connects half way down the stand for an acoustic guitar. You will connect this to the bottom of your keyboard stand and bend it to semi-curl around your pedal. It's not the "perfect solution", but it keeps the pedal set for quite awhile. If you absolutely have to play on ceramic flooring (no carpeting) - duct taping the bottom of the pedal in place is the only solution. This is what I use: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304666941551?_trkparms=amclksrc=ITM&aid=1110006&algo=HOMESPLICE.SIM&ao=1&asc=20201210111314&meid=d1de19b34bcd4498bc04b5f878fa216d&pid=101195&rk=1&rkt=12&sd=113828857823&itm=304666941551&pmt=1&noa=0&pg=2047675&algv=SimplAMLv11WebTrimmedV3MskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeedKnnRecallV1&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum:304666941551d1de19b34bcd4498bc04b5f878fa216d|enc:AQAHAAABIMFr2e4EmAnM%2ByHZkULYKDIJ4L66fOjNL0iupgt%2BzO1%2F3AE1t3mNirUYB96NktMCicMagiS6mbeTl0xquGODv9lFVQZ%2FcKkUsJpk7yZyPcZmO7pwkTty85Fbz5CUEODgSxwckRM0AgMlBlduveL%2B3mtypXeYn6j%2BQujQ75VG3MF6idWbtDuDplAjnp3YvHupZWxUtkg37Zf3hDph8OtqaVtD2Q4BOsxBUTtGRdhEcDcy1%2FpndmjjUXrgiAO%2FsmUqoEkHITUB3J5PMYVGx1OqP6XFGVP5sUzkPtWRkX9xnXLdUCATflfbyrdfPyDhD2oICnXvCOpnJrHBHqedp1U%2FPiVkl0eFj7BFbbgu3A3pDboi0WM4495VwMEE6ycH%2Fcmwiw%3D%3D|ampid:pL_CLK|clp:2047675&epid=1400286342

The trick w/ grip mat is that the mat has to be big enough so your HEEL is on the mat. In other words: It starts under the pedal and extends TOWARDS YOU quite a bit. Then when you push the pedal, you're also holding the mat down w/ your heel, so it doesn't slip.

That's all good - but when you are slightly bow-footed - that pedal ain't gonna stay put .

Grip Mat.

I got a roll of it for about £2 off Amazon years ago.

Used it for many things especially to keep pedals in place, no glue, no velcro, no sticky duct tape, this stuff works and it is only about 2mm thick and cuts with a pair of scissors.

I second this, I use it for everything. I've superglued some to my stand to prevent keyboard slippage. Also glued to bottom of all pedals but great to have as just a 'mat' as suggested.

As old as this thread is, I hope it sticks around. Sometimes it's these little annoyances that can keep you from really getting into the groove.

I second the gaff tape solution. It's easy, cheap, and light but it depends on the venue.

I have another technique that works for me simply because I play a lot of seated gigs and use an X stand. I set the pedal as far right as it will go with the back up against the lower right part of the X and angle it inward a bit. If you're a little bow-legged and have big feet it works even better :).

Try that on an uneven surface like an outdoor gig. I have seen chains that looped under the legs and held the pedal, but can't find the rig or how it mounted to the pedal - I need sus AND volume/expression for pseudo-B3 setup.

If you can't find a solution, use the only foolproof thing that will do the job: duct tape.
