To be honest it utterly amazes me the UK is utterly paralyzed by 10 to 15 cm of snow

Yeah I know what you mean! We don't get much weather like this, so we're not really kitted out for dealing with it. We get a lot of icy road conditions in the winter so you see the gritters out, but I don't think there is much in the way of equipment for prolonged periods of snow. I guess for the local councils who are responsible it's a catch-22 situation - either you don't have the equipment and are criticised, or you do have the equipment and are criticised for spending money on stuff that is hardly used. I'm just glad I work from home
