Merry Christmas to all and to all a very Happy New Year!

Quick question to Gary here: I'm intrigued by your choice of subwoofer in your studio. Since I'm in the process of moving, I'd like to know where you got yours? I'm going to be able to get a bit louder since I'm moving form an apartment into a house. I'm heading east young man!
Into the deepest darkest bowels of Scarberia!

No problem Jeremy

When I lived in a house I had a monster massive 10" subwoofer from Mackie.

The MRS10 to be exact. It weighed as much as a small bar fridge. ;D

When I moved to a high rise I was worried about blasting out the neighbours so I sold off the Mackie for a few hundred and bought a no name 8" Monoprice Subwoofer direct from Amazon.

Monoprice also has their own website so check out both for the best price. Amazon and their crazy casino pricing is not usually the best reliable deal in town these days,

At this particular moment they're selling on Amazon for about what I paid for mine. $146 CDN taxed and shipped.

Monoprice in the US sells them for $59 USD to Americans. As usual Canadians get screwed at the border :p

Anyway, for a small studio space, the Monoprice is more than good enough to round out a pair of 5 inch studio monitors and since my high rise is pretty much soundproof I have yet to get any noise complaints from the neighbours.

Then again unless your hearing is totally shot from years of stage work I'd suggest you save yourself a bundle and get the monoprice.

Gary ;)

Thanks! I'd be happy to send you some pictures. The truck comes tomorrow so we're still in mad panic mode. The Mono price sounds like the exact thing for me. It'll be a few weeks before I get the studio back up and running though I think.

9:10 in the evening at the new house. Wife's sleeping. Cats are maxi stressed. I can't even get into what will eventually be my new studio but all is nonetheless still good. I'm sipping on a Crown Royal Canadian Northern Harvest Rye and just relaxing. I have no tv. I have no studio but life is still good. We chose to move on what so far has turned out to be the coldest day of the year yet. My back aches but I'll get over it. I know that I have at least a couple of weeks ahead before I actually will have my music studio back but it's not a worry. There's one on the basement and my old Korg Triton Pro X is down there. I just hope that nobody gets too upset when I bring her upstairs because, well, she is mine! I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with my old 88 key baby. I had to bring her here to my friend's house because after I bought my Kronos, I didn't have room in my old studio.
The basement is fully equipped for live jamming. 2 killer guitar rigs, a great drum set, an Ampeg SVT bass amp, P.A. For vocals and keyboards, lights, full audio and video recording. Plus, a bar with working draft beer taps! I kid you not! This is in the basement of my new home! Now I just st have to figure out how to properly fit my old Hammond M3 in my living room. I also need to find where I put the book I was reading last night.

One must properly relax.

Well I thought it was time to get back to this relaxing thread about home studios. Yes! We're all moved in and now live in deepest darkest Scarberia! For those of you lovely people who don't at all know Toronto, Scarborough is the eastern most suburb of Toronto. It's had a somewhat bad reputation for years as being the hard rock/metal home of the city so I feel just right here! My studio is now up and running but I haven't yet done any acoustic treatment and man, I really have to tell you that after having lived in an apartment for many years I really like living in a house. BUT! Today, just as I was about to try to do some vocal recording, the freaking furnace kicked in! In my headphones it sounded like I was directly behind an F18! I'd insert a naughty word here. It's starts with an "f"!
I never had thins problem before. I a;so noticed the dire need for some room treatment through my headphones.
My amazing wife bought me an awesome pair of Sennhiezer headphones for Christmas!
Since my studio is a little bit bigger, I can now have to 3 tier stands for keyboards. Before I was limited to only one which had my Kronos on the bottom, My King Korg in the middle and my Wavestation on top. Now I can have my old Triton Pro X on my other stand on the bottom, my Korg Poysix in the middle and my very old Minikorg on the top.
And yes I'm sipping Whisky as I type. Just to keep up appearances, you know!
I'm still trying to figure out where and how to have my small collection of guitar amplifiers set up.. The optimum for me is to have everything set up so that I can record any device without having to go through all the rigamarole of re=cabling.and re miking. My guitar amps aren't big and right now I'm totally in love with my other freaking awesome Christmas present! A Vox Pathfinder 10. She's a beauty! Great tone and versatile.

Short pause here! Have a sip of your favourite! Sorry. Canadian spelling!

Aah! Back again.

Quick question here. What's the best way to post pictures on this forum? Using the upload a file option?

As I look around my humble little sanctuary I realize that I've got a poopload to work to do, IMG_0486.JPG

Okay. Well I almost got that right. That's an old shot form my old studio with my Ibanez right out in front.
Please ignore the beer cases in the back. They're all empty now, sorry. The guitar was a Christmas present form Laurie, my wife a few years ago. Yes, I am one spoiled little cookie! She gets treated right by me so no worries!
The keyboard stack is the same here in my new studio. I like it that way. It's on the right side of my mixing desk, Same as the way I had it before. It's just because of where the door and window is. No other reason.
Anyway. Enough of my nonsense here for one night.
Be well everyone!

It's just an inexpensive Ibanez RG Series. I don't know the exact model but I like the way it plays. It looks good and sounds good too! I really like Ibanez instruments. I think that for the money, their inexpensive products are really pretty good.
